BENTONITE is listed in the European Commission CosIng inventory under the functional categories Absorbent, Bulking, Emulsion Stabilising, Viscosity Controlling, with CAS number 1302-78-9 and EC number 215-108-5. CosIng also records it as bentonitum (Ph. Eur.). CosIng records a restriction against it (IV/119), so check the corresponding Annex entry before formulating. Fulton (1989) grades it 0 on the 0–5 comedogenicity scale; that grade is transcribed as-is and is the only rating source used.
